in 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of China's polar scientific expeditions. Over the past 40 years, China has launched five stations and two research vessels for Antarctic research. In 1983, when China joined the Antarctic Treaty, it became part of the international governance of Antarctica. in 1985 in October, China became a consultative party to the Antarctic Treaty and received decision-making status in international polar affairs. China currently has four Antarctic research stations in four different locations. The main station named "Great Wall" is located on King George Island, Zhongshan Station in the Larsemann Hills, Kunlun Station and Taishan Station in the Antarctic Inland Region, and Qinling Station in the Ross Sea area. The region where the Great Wall station is located is suitable for subantarctic ecological monitoring and research. Zhongshan Station is an ideal location to observe and study the evolution of the Antarctic ice sheet and the interaction between the ice shelf and the ocean. It is also an excellent location for research in aerophysics, geology, geophysics and other disciplines.

The 10 yuan silver coin is designed by Li Zhenkai. The obverse shows the polar research vessel Xuelong 2 in the Arctic Sea with the polar research team taking a sample of the ice core on the right. On the left, a polar bear and two cubs can be seen in front of a partial outline of an Arctic map and the location of two Chinese Arctic research stations. Above the original design is a color image of the aurora borealis and the inscription 中国极地科学考察 40周年 (40th Anniversary of the Chinese Polar Scientific Expedition). The denomination of 10元 (yuan) is displayed in the lower left corner.

The coat of arms of the People's Republic of China is depicted on the reverse of the gold and silver coins. The name of the country is above the emblem in Chinese characters 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) and the year 2024. year of release as shown below.
