in 1773 October 14 The National Education Commission (Polish: Komisja Edukacji Narodowej) established by the resolution of the Seimas of the Republic of Both Nations, which acquired the name Education Commission in Lithuanian writing, was the first education ministry in Europe, responsible for the organization, administration and content of the school system. The educational commission was tasked with controlling all academies, higher schools, academic communities and public schools of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, as well as modernizing and secularizing the educational content. The economic basis of the reform of the education system was formed in 1773. the property of the abolished Jesuit Order, which was entrusted to the Educational Commission to administer.
The establishment of the educational commission testified to the adoption of the ideas of the Age of Enlightenment in the Republic of the Two Nations. Belief in the power of the human mind matured the idea that the order of the state is directly related to its educational system, so no fundamental change in governance can be implemented without changing the education system at the same time. This insight developed by the philosopher Claude Adrien Helvétius (1715-1771) was used by the reformers of the Republic in 1773. Radical reforms of the state were undertaken in the Seimas gathered in Warsaw. Strengthening and modernizing the Republic, which survived the catastrophe of the first partition, was expected through education - the goal was to create a system that would help raise a generation of forward-thinking, educated young people ready to serve the Motherland, ensuring the state's prosperity. Representatives of Lithuania actively participated in the preparation of the education reform project - Lithuanian Vice-Chancellor Jokimas Liutauras Chreptavičius (1729–1812) and Vilnius Bishop Duke Ignotas Jokūbas Masalskis (1726–1794), he became the first chairman of the Educational Commission.
On the reverse side of the coin is an image of the seal of the Educational Commission of the Republic of the Two Nations with the inscription in Latin. "Collegium Praefectorum Publicae Institutioni" (College of Heads of Public Education) and a symbolic book depicting the cover of a textbook for primary schools, transferred by the Education Commission at the printing house of the reformed Vilnius University in 1783, and a quote rendered in Lithuanian from the first circular of the Education Commission "... training and education of young people - the only condition for the sustainable happiness of states". The composition is surrounded by the inscription "Educational Commission of the Republic of Both Nations", "250".
On the obverse side of the coin - the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Vytis in the background of the ensemble of buildings of the University of Vilnius - the reformed High School of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (18th century engraving on the right), the inscriptions "Lithuania", denomination "10 €", "2023" and UAB "Lietuvos monetų" mint" logo.
