John Hunyadi (Hunyadi János) around 1407 Transylvania 1456-08-11 Belgrade, Hungarian warlord, statesman. Father of King Matthias I Corvinus. From the nobility of Wallachia. He became famous for leading frequent clashes with the Turks. Became famous in the king's court. in 1439 supported the Jogailai dynasty's candidate for the Hungarian throne, Vladislaus. He who became king was supported. in 1441 appointed governor of Transylvania. With this ruler in 1441-44. In the Balkans, he achieved victories against the previously invincible army of the Ottoman Empire and forced Sultan Murad II to ask for a truce. After the renewal of fighting in 1444 lost to the Turks near Varna in the summer (King Vladislaus Varnietis was killed here). 1444-52, while Vladislaus the Posthumous (Posthumus) was a minor, regent of Hungary. Made his mark in 1456. Battle of Belgrade - defeated the Turkish army and stopped their advance on Hungary for 65 years; ten days later, he contracted and died from an unknown contagious disease common in the Hungarian camp.
