Spinning and sailing through the sky, Shenlong is the revered long ("dragon") of Chinese mythology, who controls the elements on which agriculture depends: wind, rain, clouds and, when angry, storms. The benevolent rainmaker and master of storms is usually sky-blue and often overlooked, but this 99.99% pure gold coin captures Shenlong in a commanding pose that leaves no doubt about her prowess in the sky.

 

The reverse of the coin was designed by Simon Ng and depicts the Chinese spirit dragon Shenlong, the benevolent bringer of rains and master of storms. Moving forward through the sky, the snake-like dragon's body snakes into the distance, and Shenlong brings up the air elements. The dragon's claws rest on billowing clouds, and with puffed cheeks Shenlong exhales the swirling wind; that air movement is also conveyed by the swirling whiskers, eyebrows and horns. The obverse features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
