Sabena NV (French: Société Anonyme Belge d'Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne; Dutch: Belgische Naamloze Vennootschap tot Exploitatie van het Luchtverkeer) was the national airline of Belgium from 1923 until 2001 in November
in 1923 on May 23, Sabena's founding day, the first flight was already organized! Sabena (after KML) is the oldest airline in Europe. The "father of Belgian aviation" Georges Nélis (the first Belgian military officer to hold a military pilot's license) and King Albert I were closely involved in its establishment.
The design of the coin was created by Iris Bruijns, the obverse of the coin features an image of the Sabena Airbus A340-211 with René Magritte's Bird of the Sky. A plane flies around the world. On the left we see "Sabena" with a sky bird, under it: ANS 100 YEARS.
