The Royal Australian Air Force will celebrate its centenary in 2021. The Royal Australian Mint is celebrating this historic occasion by issuing commemorative coins, Heroes of Heaven.
Sir Richard Williams is considered one of the founders of RAAF. He was born in 1890. Muonta Mine, South Australia. Williams was the first officer to obtain a pilot qualification in Australia and served in the First World War of 1914-1918. He was also the first RAAF air marshal and held senior positions in military and civil aviation.
Robin Clay-Williams was one of the first women to receive RAAF wings when she was born in 1987. studied pilots. She was a flight instructor and test pilot. As a test pilot, she flew 20 different aircraft and tested the C-130J Super Hercules in Atlanta, USA, for five years.
The obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jodie Clarke. The inscriptions around the perimeter: "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA", "2021" and the denomination of the coin: "1 DOLLAR".
On the other side are Australian aircraft of various epochs. Inscriptions: "1921 - 2021", "ROYAL AUSTRALIAN" / "AIR FORCE" . The signature "C" from the Canberra Mint is minted at the top.
