€8 Coin Estonia, 2019
€8 Coin Estonia, 2019
In January 2019, Estonia issued a commemorative silver coin "Hanseatic Viljandi", dedicated to the city of Viljandi, which was once part of the Hanseatic Union of Cities.
The Estonian Academy of Arts announced a competition for the best design for this coin, which was won by Elisabeth Juusu, a student of the Estonian Academy of Arts. It was her coin that was issued by the mint. It is called "Four Symbols" and contains a medieval symbol of trade, which combines shapes representing fruit, fish, candles and a trading boat.
On its obverse are the coat of arms of Estonia, the name of the issuing bank and the year of issue.
On the reverse there is an image of a boat floating on the waves, a view from above, which is also a symbol of trade denoting fruits, fish, candles and a trading boat. There is also an inscription with the face value of the coin.
