Australian Stock Horse 2016
Following the runaway success of the first three issues in the series, the Perth Mint has just unveiled the new 2016 $1 Australian Stock Horse 1oz Silver coin.
The coin's reverse portrays an Australian Stock Horse grazing amid a rural landscape. The design includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN STOCK HORSE, the 2016 year-date and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination on the coin's obverse.
The Australian Stock Horse has been especially bred for Australian conditions. It is a hardy breed of horse noted for its endurance, agility and agreeable temperament. Initially used for exploration, their strength, stamina and courage saw more than 120,000 of them being sent to serve in World War 1. Today it is used in a wide variety of equestrian disciplines, and is also still highly valued as a working horse by stockmen throughout Australia.
Limited Mintage. The Perth Mint will issue no more than 10,000 of the 2016 Australian Stock Horse 1oz Silver Coin.
