The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Gediminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania. The portrait is based on a medal by the sculptor Vytautas Kašuba and is surrounded by the inscriptions GEDIMINAS • DIDYSIS • LIETUVOS • KUNIGAIKŠTIS (GEDIMINAS, GRAND DUKE OF LITHUANIA) and 1316–1341.
The obverse of the coin features Vytis inside a shield against a damascened background with the Duke’s crown and sceptre, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), denomination (50 litas), and the year of issue (1996).
